The Clockwork Scythe is Mortal Shell II's flair piece: enormous reaping sweeps, a ticking clockwork spine, and — once you socket the right stone — a literal chainsaw mode that turns every swing into a multi-hit shredder. It is arguably a fan favorite the moment it appears on screen.

Where to find the Clockwork Scythe

  1. Start from the outskirts of Mammon — the same region as the Obsidian Hammer route.
  2. Make your way to the Chamber of Becoming.
  3. Clear the chamber and the scythe is yours.

Moveset overview

  • Light attacks — sweep, sweep, then a huge sweep: very wide reaping arcs that hit crowds sideways.
  • Heavy attacks — committed swings with an enhanced finisher.
  • Running attacks — solid gap-closers on both buttons.

The base kit is a crowd-control dream; the special is where it becomes a boss-killer.

Best Tarstones: attack speed again

The Thief's Stone is the pick, exactly as with the Veteran's Battle Axe: Warp stacks ramp the scythe's swing speed until the wide sweeps come out fast enough to be unavoidable.

Infusions: Blood Curse fits the flavor

Two strong options: Arbiter's Prize (Blood Curse) or the Voltaic Crown. Both are good — the honest tiebreaker is taste. Blood Curse gets the thematic nod here: a big bloody chainsaw scythe that punishes enemies for swinging back just looks right, and the self-damage punish loop pairs beautifully with a weapon that never stops moving.

Special ability: chainsaw mode

Two uniques plus the standard Acolyte's Stone/Unwieldly Stone fillers:

  • Scholar's Wormstone — the star. Activate it to consume Resolve over time and set the chainsaw in motion: every attack is augmented, and each chainsaw spin deals 35% of the weapon's base damage, turning all your hits into multi-hits. It plays like the savage-axe mode from Monster Hunter — flip it on, then watch status effects and bleed procs stack on every contact.

  • Clockwork Shardstone — the alternative active "drain" mode. It works, but the effect is subtle and the Wormstone outclasses it for most builds.

The Wormstone compounding scales beautifully with buff-stacking Shells — any setup with static attack and defense bonuses mows through packs with it active.

Verdict

Wide sweeps, a chainsaw, and Blood Curse dripping off every spin. The Clockwork Scythe is equal parts spectacle and damage math — and the math is very much in your favor.
