Tarstones are Mortal Shell II's equipable stone system: 75 of them exist, and collecting them is one of the game's longest-running side goals. This checklist covers every Tarstone shown in the complete-collection video below — each row links to the exact moment the stone's pickup is shown, so you can jump straight to any stone you're missing.

How Tarstones work

  • Equip before you fight. A Tarstone only earns its experience while it is slotted in your Tarstones menu — kills made without equipping it earn nothing.
  • Level stones at a Tarforge. Once a stone's experience bar is full, bring it to one of the game's Tarforge stations to spend the level. The video shows a fresh pickup below — every stone works the same way.

A Tarstone pickup in the world

  • Some stones come from bosses, not the world. The Ability-group stones earned from gate bosses — Magdalena's Memento, Captive's Scabstone, Lost Clotstone, Colossus Stone, Conqueror's Reward, Hexapod Core, Scholar's Wormstone, and friends — are boss drops rather than map pickups, so expect a fight for those rows.

A boss-earned Tarstone dropping after a gate fight

  • Two merchants sell several stones outright. The Marrow Keep merchant and the Night Merchant each cover a batch of the list — buy those rows rather than hunting for pickups.

The checklist

Stones are grouped by their in-game type. Timestamps jump straight to the pickup in the video; the final rows cover merchant stock, which is bought rather than found.

Stones this video does not cover

A handful of stones known from the in-game wiki listing have no dedicated chapter in the collection video: Glimpse Stone and Egon's Stone (the fragile stones that shatter into Glimpses after enough kills), plus the basic Acolyte's Stone, Unwieldly Stone, Infused Stone, Infested Stone, and Fulminant Stone. If your in-game collection tracker shows one of those missing, this checklist will not resolve it — check the Fragile and Ability pages of the community wiki for those.

Stones that change how a weapon plays

A few checklist entries matter far beyond collection value, and each has a home on this site: Duality Stone is the best-in-slot combat stone for both dual-wield weapons (Axe and Dagger, Axatana), Frostshard Stone is what makes the Great Martyr's Blade viable, Warden's Stone supports its freeze loop, and Scholar's Wormstone is the Clockwork Scythe's chainsaw mode. If you only chase a few stones, chase those.

Collection tips from the video

  • The route in the video is ordered roughly as a pickup run, so working down the checklist from top to bottom roughly follows one sweep of the map rather than constant backtracking.
  • Several stones sit inside dungeons you may already have cleared for other goals — the shell unlock routes and weapon unlock routes cross the same areas, so combine trips where the video's timestamp shows a familiar landmark.
  • Merchant stock (the two final rows) is the fastest way to close a gap of one or two stones late in the collection if you have the gold.
